Furino & Sons, Inc. · Our history
The story of a family, a business and a century of building in New Jersey.
Chapter I
John Furino Contracting was founded by the late John Frank Furino circa 1925. Mr. Furino’s family migrated to this country from Maddaloni, Italy, in the Province of Caserta, in the early 1900s and settled in Plainfield, New Jersey.
The business primarily consisted of excavation and masonry services in the housing sector of Union County, New Jersey.

Chapter II
In the 1930s, Mr. Furino was able to endure the Great Depression and support his growing family. The family consisted of eight children, including four boys, who would eventually evolve the business name to Furino & Sons, “Brothers Four.”
During the 1940s, at the start of World War II, Mr. Furino grew the company and invested in the latest technology of the time. Advanced construction equipment of the day consisted of cable excavators and hydraulic bulldozers. He was fortunate to secure several government contracts that helped the company grow during wartime.
He was also awarded one of the biggest jobs in the area during the 1940s: the site work and excavation for the department store Bamberger’s, located on Front Street in Plainfield. With the post-war housing boom taking place, the company was poised for expansion.

In 1966, the company became incorporated and the name was changed to Furino and Sons, Inc. (Brothers Four). The four sons worked together and expanded the company’s services, making it successful for the decades to come. Furino & Sons also became signatory with the local construction unions throughout New Jersey.
