April 3rd, 2025

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in collaboration with the New York Power Authority, Furino and Sons, Inc. has begun construction on New York State’s largest onsite solar plus storage project—a cutting-edge solar carport canopy at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Highlighted in Governor Hochul’s State of the State address, this transformative project supports New York’s commitment to clean energy and infrastructure innovation. The JFK solar carport aligns with the state’s climate agenda by advancing the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, creating sustainable jobs, and driving green economic growth. Additionally, the project ensures that a significant portion of clean energy investments benefit disadvantaged communities.

As with all Port Authority capital initiatives, the development of the solar carport adheres to the agency’s 30% participation goal for minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs), reinforcing its commitment to equitable economic opportunity.

Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking project that positions JFK Airport at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure.
